VISAKHAPATNAM: The Forest Department has decided to hire trained elephants from Assam to tame a herd of wild elephants from Orissa which has wrought havoc in tribal areas of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts. A Guwahati-based private firm specialising in driving away wild elephants to their original abode in various States is being contacted. Three elephants will be brought by road.
For over two months, the tribals in Gummalakshmipuram, Makkuva, Darsini and adjoining areas are having sleepless nights due to fear of attack by pachyderms who migrated from Lekhari sanctuary of Orissa’s Gajapati district.
