Women stage novel protest against omission of names in Indiramma
Special Correspondent
TIRUPATI: Women under the banner of the CPI (M) have on Thursday chosen a novel way to register their protest against the omission of their names in the list of beneficiaries of Indiramma scheme.
Holding a mock-Grihapravesam into the Municipal Corporation office, the women trouped into the Corporation office and offered poojas to the portraits .
The reason for their ire was the omission of eligible beneficiaries in the list finalised by the authorities for the allotment of Indiramma houses. The CPI (M) which held a ‘Maha Dharna’ with turn-out of the affected women has alleged in a memorandum submitted to the Corporation Commissioner, T. Sakala Reddy that in the Tirupati town alone as many as 7000 eligible persons who possessed the prescribed white-cards were ignored besides another 2000 eligible poor.
The party also submitted to the Commissioner three bundles containing the ‘petitions’ received by the CPI (M) teams .
CPI(M) leader and the Deputy Mayor of the Nellore Municipal Corporation, Madala Venkateswarlu addressing the demonstrators said that though the Government did well to launch the scheme in response to the CPI (M)’s ‘Bhoo Poratam’, it was full of irregularities and political bias in implementation.
