VIJAYAWADA: The Jana Vignana Vedika (JVV) has demanded that the State Government take necessary steps to ensure that the Reliance India Limited (RIL) that was exploring gas in the Krishna-Godavari basin followed a uniform tariff regime for supply of gas to Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, JVV State president N. Venugopal Rao said the RIL had agreed to supply gas to the Gujarat-based companies at just 2.97 dollars a unit but fixed the price at 4.33 dollars a unit for supply to Andhra Pradesh. The State Government should prevail upon the Centre to rectify the anomaly at the earliest, he said.
Prof. Venugopal Rao also wanted the Government to ensure that the local requirements were met first, before transporting the natural gas to other States.

Even the Twelfth Finance Commission had recommended that States should be allowed to consume 50 per cent of the natural resources produced. Prof. Rao said that the price of gas cylinder would come down to Rs. 100 if the gas produced in the KG basin was used for local requirements.
JVV State secretary V. Srinivas also spoke.
