The package is for a groups of 30 tourists per month Rajasthan is a major source of tourists in Tamil Nadu JAIPUR: The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation has introduced a rail-cum-road tour programme from Jaipur, covering a generous cross-section of the southern coastal State in ten days and providing a glimpse of monuments, crafts, temples, heritage and wildlife to the tourists from Rajasthan. The holiday package includes the journey from Jaipur to Chennai and back by train and conducted tours in luxury coaches through the rich and diverse landscape of Tamil Nadu. The package will be available to groups of 30 tourists once every month and twice in December throughout the year. The Director of Tamil Nadu Tourism, M. Rajaram, told reporters here that TTDC was considering taking tourists from Jaipur by low-fare flights to reduce the time spent in the train journey. He said Rajasthan was one of the major sources of tourist arrivals in Tamil Nadu. “Tamil Nadu’s Chettinad mansions are as grand and magnificent as the palaces and forts in the desert landscape and havelis in Shekhawati region of Rajasthan,” said Mr. Rajaram, while pointing out that tourists from the desert State would be delighted to see the grandeur of monuments and temples in Tamil Nadu. Mr. Rajaram said the tourist arrivals in Tamil Nadu were constantly on the increase with 2006 registering an unprecedented growth of 21 per cent. Against 11.79-lakh foreign and 3.23-crore domestic tourists arriving in 2005, a total of 13.36-lakh foreign and 3.92-crore domestic tourists visited the State during the year 2006. The Tourism Director said TTDC was promoting medical tourism in association with super speciality hospitals and rural tourism with the support of the private sector. The TTDC is also running a chain of hotels, known as Hotel Tamil Nadu, spread all over the State offering good services at affordable tariffs.
