Jithin hits century

KOTTAYAM: R. Jithin belted a century (159) as Thiruvananthapuram ended the first day’s play against Pathanamthitta in a strong position in the South Zone under-17 inter-district cricket tournament here on Thursday. In another match, Alappuzha was in command after taking the first innings lead against Kottayam.

The scores: Thiruvananthapuram 366 for eight in 90 overs (R. Jithin 159, V. Kannan 53, R. Aravind 51, Monish Jain 45) vs. Pathanamthitta; Kottayam 118 in 39.3 overs vs. Alapuzha 122 for three in 48 overs.

Sanuth to lead

Thiruvananthapuram’s M.E. Sanuth will lead the Kerala team in the South Zone under-19 inter-State cricket championship in Thiruvananthapuram from Saturday.

The team: M.E. Sanuth (capt.), Rajilal, Akhil Viswanath, Sachin Mohan, P.M. Jinesh, Subin Sulaiman, Pius K. Joseph, K. Philip, Shaiju, Manu Krishnan, Deepak Murali, Mohammed Nazeef, Sachin Baby, Ansal, M.K. Arjun.

Lourde wins thriller

Lourde Public School (Kottyam) edged out host Porukara Jr College and Central School (Champakulam) 22-21 in the opening match of Porukara Trophy all-Kerala inter-school basketball tournament.

The results: Lourde PS (Kottayam) 22 (Jain Mathew 13) bt Porukara Jr College & Central School (Champakulam) 21 (Sijomon 10); St. Thomas (Kozhencherry) 49 (Richard Baby 21, Arun Alexander 10) bt LMHSS (Alappuzha) 32.

CBSE athletics

The CBSE athletic meet Cluster VI (Kerala) will be held at the Central stadium in Thiruvananthapuram from October 27 to 29. The meet is being organised by Alan Feldman Public School, Kazhakuttam.
