VISAKHAPATNAM: Four persons, including a scholar of Andhra University, were arrested by the City Task Force (CTF) here on Thursday on charge of producing and selling fake certificates.
According to Police Commissioner N. Sambasiva Rao, the CTF laid a trap and caught one of the accused Peethani Prasad and based on his confession, the other three were taken into custody. A CTF member approached Prasad and sought a B.A. certificate. The accused said that it would cost Rs. 15,000.
CTF SIs K. Lakshmana Murthy and B. Siva Prasad and their team were following the movements of the accused for the past 10 days. The accused was arrested when he went to collect the fake certificate from another accused Govinda Raju at Thatichetlapalem in the city. While Govinda Raju and another accused Molli Naidu, both Matriculates, were involved in the preparation of the fake certificates, Prasad and a scholar in the university Yugandhar were arranging the deals with their prospective clients. Prasad had done three MA’s from Andhra University and is now doing M.Li.Sc.
Mr. Lakshmana Murthy said that Govinda Raju was arrested in a fake certificate scam in the past also. Computer systems, rubber stamps and stationery were recovered from the premises of Govinda Raju. The accused were selling the certificates for prices ranging between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 20,000. They were issuing certificates pertaining to SSC, Board of Intermediate Examination, Engineering, BBA and BBM.
The accused were handed over to the III Town police for further investigation.
