ADILABAD: The job of a press photographer and videographer is becoming increasingly difficult in Adilabad apparently because their output is being put to different use. Adilabad police used as evidence pictures and videos in cases connected with rioting in the recent past that resulted in proving the charges against some accused.
One such difficult moments faced by press photographers was the official inauguration of cotton purchase at the agriculture market committee yards in Adilabad town on Wednesday. Anxious farmers entered into a wordy duel with some of the photographers who were in the market to cover the inauguration that is customarily an event in the local annals.
“Poyee Ganga la padu (go to hell) was the reply when I tried to reason it out with an angry farmer. Things did not worsen as the farmers were happy with the price issue ultimately,” recounted a photographer from a popular Telugu daily.
“We were targeted by the stone pelting mob near the Adilabad MPDO office and bus stand during the seed distribution crisis in June-July. I presume that those who were indulging in damaging of public property feared being identified from the photos and videos,” recalled A. Sanjiv Reddy, who then worked for Vartha daily. One Town Sub Inspector L. Jeevan Reddy said evidence from a video had led to proof of rioting.
