Many killed in blasts

KARACHI: At least 34 people were killed when a massive car bomb exploded near Benazir Bhutto’s truck during her homecoming parade on Thursday, but the former Pakistani premier is safe, police and officials said.

However, according to another report, there were two blasts near the vehicle carrying the former Prime Minister.

An Associated Press photographer said he saw between 50 and 60 dead or badly injured people. He said some of the bodies were in parts.

An initial small explosion was followed by a huge blast just feet from the front of the truck carrying Ms. Bhutto during a procession through Karachi. The blast shattered the windows of her vehicle. — Agencies
