‘Periyar’ to be screened at international film fest
Tamil film ‘Periyar’ has been selected to be screened at the International Film Festival in Goa from November 23 to December 3. It is one of the 23 films selected under the Indian Panorama section, according to director of the film Gnana Rajasekaran.
A five-member committee, headed by director K. Sethumadhavan, selected the 23 films from 119 feature films that had entered the contest. ‘Ammuvagiya Naan’ is the other Tamil film selected for screening at the festival. The films will also be screened in other international film festivals abroad as official entries of the Indian Panorama section.
Mr. Rajasekaran said ‘Periyar’ had been dubbed in Hindi and cleared by the Censor Board. It would soon be dubbed in other Indian languages too, to help people in other States know the revolutionary leader.
He said he was satisfied that the purpose of producing the film had been served with the receipt of hundreds of messages from all sections of society stating that the film helped them to know the teachings of Periyar.
Students and youth said the film had made an impact on them. Commercially too it was a hit, as it had completed 100 days in major cities, he added.
