Woman dies as auto rams pole Crime notes

BANGALORE: A 26-year-old woman died on the spot and her husband was injured when the autorickshaw by which they were travelling rammed a pole and fell into a drain on Wednesday.

The police said the accident occurred around 10.30 p.m. on Mahadevapura Ring Road in K.R. Puram traffic police station limits. Heavy rain in that area is said to have resulted in the driver losing balance and hitting the pole.

The victim has been identified as Nirmala, a vegetable vendor and resident of Marathalli.

Her husband, Shamasunder, has been hospitalised.

The K.R. Puram traffic police have registered a case.

In another incident, Gururaj Rao (48), a BMTC bus driver, was killed when he fell off a tractor-trailer in Kamakshipalya traffic police station limits on Wednesday.

The police said Gururaja Rao was sitting in the tractor-trailer in which a Ganesh idol was being taken in a procession from the 5th BMTC depot to Mallathalli tank.

When the tractor driver applied brakes suddenly near Sanjeevininagar, Gururaja Rao fell on the road and suffered serious head injuries.

He died on the way to hospital.

He was a resident of Magadi Road. The Kamakshipalya traffic police have seized the vehicle and registered a case.

House burgled

Burglars struck at Sujatha Reddy’s house in Balaji Krishna Layout in Yelahanka police station limits and made away with Rs. 500 and gold ornaments worth Rs. 1.5 lakh. The theft took place when Sujatha had been to Devanahalli on Sunday.

The incident came to light after she returned home on Wednesday, the police said. The Yelahanka police have registered a case.

Succumbs to burns

Yasmeen (18), who suffered burns when her clothes caught fire while cooking at her house in Begur on Hosur Road on Monday, died at Victoria Hospital on Thursday.

She had married Irfan about nine months ago, the police said.

The Electronics City police have registered a case.

Recovered

The Kamakshipalya police arrested three teenagers on charges of burglary and recovered from them gold jewellery worth Rs. 50,000. The police gave the names of the arrested as Gangadhar (19), Rajesh alias Kariya (18) and Mukunda (18).

In another case, the MICO Layout police arrested Rajendra (25) and Syed Zameer (27) on charges of vehicle theft and recovered from them four two-wheelers, together worth Rs. 95,000.
