‘Extortionist’ held

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old Nepalese national allegedly running an extortion racket has been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police for allegedly threatening to kill a businessman for not coughing up money.

A prominent businessman of Nepal who is a frequent visitor to Delhi lodged a complaint with the Delhi police that he received an extortion call. The complainant said the caller identified himself as Sandeep Pathak alias Milan Lama of International Black Spider Group and demanded Rs.1 crore from him.

An FIR was registered on March 19. Gang leader Sandeep Pathak was arrested on Wednesday and a 7.65-bore pistol and five live cartridges were allegedly seized from his possession. During interrogation, Sandeep purportedly told the police that he was given to gambling and formed an extortion gang along with his schoolmates to meet his need for money. The gang would target the rich and even shot at some businessmen who refused to cough up the money.
