Governor invited to flag off the rally to Mysore The vintage vehicles include 45 cars and six motorcycles BANGALORE: A fleet of stately cars and motorcycles will be flagged off from the city on Saturday to add a vintage touch to the Dasara celebrations. The Karnataka Vintage and Classic Car Club, in association with Karnataka Tourism, has invited Governor Rameshwar Thakur to flag off the rally to the Mysore Palace at the Taj West End on October 20 at 10 a.m. The vintage vehicles — 45 cars and six motorcycles — will have police escort. Karnataka has invaluable vintage and classic cars and motorcycles, which have been preserved by the members of Karnataka Vintage and Classic Cars Club. They comprise Wolseley, Delage, Lanchester, Jaguar, Ford, Mercedes, Chevrolet, Desoto, Dodge, Rover, Austin, Morris and Citroen which were used by the erstwhile royalty and industrialists of yesteryear. The oldest car to take part is a venerable 1909 Wolseley previously owned by the Maharaja of Cooch Behar and presently owned by Shefali Prakash. The oldest motorcycle — to call it a two-wheeler would be disrespectful — is 1934 Harley Davidson owned by Rupali Prakash. The vintage vehicles will be displayed at the Mysore Palace from 5 p.m. on Saturday for public viewing. The following day, they will lead the procession that will be flagged off by K.R. Srinivasan, Director-General and Inspector-General of Police, at 1.30 p.m. from the Mysore Palace.
