Move to establish emergency ward at Pollachi Government Hospital

Staff Reporter

POLLACHI: Efforts are being made by various Government departments to establish an accident emergency ward at Pollachi Government Hospital, said Vijay Pingale, Pollachi Sub-Collector.

As it was located on the national highway, the Central Government provides Rs. 1.5 crore to create the facility to help accident victims.

As per Central Government norms, Rs. 63 lakh can be used for civil works and construction of wards and Rs. 20 lakh will be allotted to purchase two ambulances.

Civil works

Communication facility will be established at a cost of Rs. 1 lakh while equipment to the tune of Rs. 6 lakh will be purchased.

Dr. Pingale said that the Centre would release funds to create accident emergency ward facility if the State Government gave an undertaking to appoint staff and carry out maintenance. He said a proposal would be sent to the State Government soon to proceed further. Once the facility was established, accident victims would get timely medical care on the Coimbatore-Palani-Dindigul Highway.

Besides the new ward, a detailed study was carried out to find out various needs of the hospital that caters to thousands of residents of Pollachi and surrounding villages.
