CHENNAI: IT services and BPO firm Cognizant on Wednesday hosted a group of 17 students from the University of Electronics, Science and Technology of China currently doing an internship at VIT University, Vellore. The students and a faculty member visited Cognizant’s techno-complex in Thoraipakkam to understand how the company serves its clients using a global development model spanning centres in India, China, South America, the U.S. and Canada. Director (Human Resources) of Cognizant Sriram Rajagopal gave an overview of the industry expectations from campus freshers. Speaking on talent management in the IT sector, he said Cognizant had made offers to more than 200 students from 18 Chinese universities. On the differences between information technology in India and China, Mr. Rajagopal said while the bulk of IT activity in India is export-oriented, much of the IT activity in China is focussed on the domestic market. In a tele-conference with the students, Cognizant’s Head of China Operations Henry Yang in Shanghai said while the company had around 400 employees in China at present, the number was likely to double in the next year.
