CHENNAI: Ten 10 bidders on Thursday expressed their willingness to the State Government to supply 30 lakh colour television sets at Rs. 2,197 a set with two-year warranty, as part of phase three of the free television distribution scheme. According to a source, the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) short-listed 22 players on October 15, but five were disqualified on Thursday as they either failed to comply with the terms and conditions laid down by the nodal agency or lacked production capacity.
Out of the 10 manufacturers, five are new. They have been asked to exhibit their models before being given the official nod. The new players will be given 60 days to start the supply. Each bidder has offered to supply colour television sets in five models.
