Full house: Sonu Nigam performing at Yuva Dasara in Mysore on Wednesday. MYSORE: Nearly 45,000 people crammed into the Maharaja College grounds to let their hair down and swing to the rhythm and beat of Sonu Nigam’s lilting music. For an audience whose appetite had been whetted by a series of concerts as part of the Yuva Dasara, with rocking performances by Usha Uthup, Gurukiran and others, the countdown, among Mysoreans was for the Sonu Nigam concert. But even Sonu Nigam was not prepared for the audience that was about to greet him when he stepped on to the stage. The adrenalin rush was sufficient to pump up the energy levels of the crowd leaving them dazed. As the concert began it was clear that Sonu Nigam and his music was not new to the crowd which lip-synched to each of his songs and swayed to the music. ResponseFrom “Kal Ho Na Ho” to “Mera Rang De Basanti”, the audience lapped it all but the biggest response, which moved Sonu Nigam, was reserved for “Anisuthide Eko Indu…” from the film “Mungaaru Male”. The crowd joined in the chorus, electrifying the mood and ambience at the concert. For a change, the audio system in place for the Yuva Dasara was of a superior quality which only enhanced the listening pleasure of the audience. The crowds this year were described as “unprecedented” by the organisers. The concert will now be uploaded on the official Dasara website www.mysoredasara.com for the benefit of those who could not make it to the concert or those who want to relive the experience.
