Hurriyat has reneged on its promise: Manmohan

ON BOARD PRIME MINISTER’S SPECIAL AIRCRAFT: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is hopeful of talking to political groups to address the Jammu and Kashmir peace process.

Talking to the accompanying newspersons at the end of his visit to Nigeria and South Africa on Thursday night, he said the moderate faction of the All-Party Hurriyat Conference had reneged on its promise to hold talks with the Centre.

He said:

“The round table conference process was developed to enable all segments of Kashmir’s political groups the opportunity to join hands with the Centre to look at the problem. It is my regret that the Hurriyat, despite promises, did not come for talks.

“I have not lost the hope to engage all groups in helping restoration of peace. I will be happy to interact with any group.”

The Prime Minister said the country would have to “go with” the rise in prices of food articles as it was a global phenomenon.

“There has been a rise in prices of food articles in the world market. Petroleum prices have also gone up. We have to go with it.”
