DUBAI: The former Pakistan Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, left for Karachi on Thursday, ending her eight-year exile from Pakistan. The Emirates Airlines flight, which took off from Dubai at 11 a.m. local time was delayed by an hour due to security reasons. Earlier, dozens of Ms. Bhutto’s supporters assembled outside her residence here. In a symbolic gesture of wishing her a safe journey, they tied a green and black band containing religious verses on her shoulder. Before leaving, Ms. Bhutto was photographed with her family and sister Sanam Bhutto. Accompanied by husband Asif Zardari and her daughter, she was driven in a black Mercedes to the airport at 7 a.m. A convoy of 50 vehicles in which her party workers and journalists travelled followed behind. “I believe in miracles and my returning home is a miracle,” a jubilant Ms. Bhutto told reporters at Dubai airport’s Al-Mashriq VIP lounge before boarding the aircraft.
