Diptayan retains lead

BANGALORE: Diptayan Ghosh of West Bengal retained the lead in the boys’ section of the National under-9 chess tournament here on Thursday. Diptayan outplayed Adarsh Yeshwant of Tamilnadu to hold on to his half point lead over top seed Sidhanth Mohapatra of Orissa who scored over Tamil Nadu’s Ashwath Hari.

In the girls’ section, G.K. Monisha of Tamilnadu defeated top seed Sweety Patel of Gujarat. On the second board, Mahalakshmi of Tamilnadu defeated her compatriot Abirami R. in 52 moves.

Monnisha is now the sole leader with 8.5 points. Mahalakshmi and Shoumi are close behind with 8 points each.
