Ji Wei clinches 110m hurdles gold

HYDERABAD: China’s Ji Wei came up with an eye-catching performance in the men’s 110m hurdles in the athletic championships of the fourth Military World Games at the GMC Balayoi Stadium in Gachibowli on Thuraday.

His technique of clearing of the hurdles and his speed gave him an edge over his rivals and he won with a good deal of comfort.

Big win

Poland’s Marcin Jedrusinski who won the men’s 200m final by a big margin over Alessandro Cavallaro of Italy said it was a good race and he was happy to have won. The 25-year old army man was competing for the first time in India and said that the track is in good condition and it helped him to give a good performance.

The men’s 800m was won in style by Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed O. Al-Salhi who even had the time for some theatrics as he crossed the finish line well ahead of the rest.

John Korir of Kenya gave an impressive display of stamina as he clinched the men’s 10,000m race. India’s Surinder Singh led for almost the entire first half of the race but faded later as the two Kenyans Korir and Mark Kiptoo stepped up the pace. Korir was first, followed by Kiptoo and Nessa Adam Ismeal of Bahrain.

The results: Men: 110m hurdles: 1. Ji Wei (Chn) 13.44s; 2. Mohammed Essa Al-Thawadi (Qat) 13.60s; 3. Gregory Sedoc (Ned) 13.75s.

800m: 1. Mohammed O. Al-salhi (KSA) 1m 49.02s; 2 Kaki Khamia Bakar (Sud) 1m 49.23s; 3. Justus Loech(Ken) 1m 49.24s. 8. Francis Sagayaraj (Ind) 1m 53.69s.

200m: 1. Marcin Jedrusinski (Pol) 20.70s; 2. Alessandro Cavallaro (Ita) 20.82s; 3. Omar Jumal Salfa (UAE) 21.10s.

3,000m steeplechase: 1. Hamid Ezzine (Mar) 8m 37.80s; 2. Henry Kipkosgei (Ken) 8m 41.83s; 3. Loic Kowal (Fra) 8m 45.16s. 9. Om Prakash (Ind) 8m 55.51s.

Long jump: 1. Hussain Taher Al-Sabee (KSA) 8.04m; 2. Julien Fivaz (Swi) 7.57m; 3. Vlodoymyr Ziuskov (Ukr) 7.55m.

10,000m: 1. John Korir (Ken) 28m 13.52s; 2. Mark Kiptoo (Ken) 28m 22.62s; 3. Nessa Adam Ismeal (Bah) 28m 42.76s. 4x100 relay: 1. Italy (39.28s); 2. 2.Poland (39.52s); 3. Saudi Arabia (39.73s). 6. India (40.75s).

4x400 relay: 1. Saudi Arabia (3m 5.10s); 2. Kenya (3m 6.11s); 3. Sudan (3m 8.70s); 6. India (3m 10.94s).

Women: High jump: 1.Palamar Vita (kr) 1.98m; 2. Anna Chicherova (Rus) 1.96m; 3. Stopina Vita (Ukr) 1.94m.

100m hurdles: 1. Yevgeniya Snigur (Ukr) 13.23s; 2. Cattaneo Micol (Ita) 13.36s; 3. Judith Ritz (Ger) 13.65s.

Javelin throw: 1. Zhang Li (Chn) 59.96m; 2. Maric Abukumova (Rus) 59.60m; 3. Indre Jakuhaityte (Lit) 54.93m.

1,500m: 1. Sylwia Ejys (Pol) 4m 16.9s; 2. Daniela Iordanova (Bul) 4m 17.00s; 3. Inna Polusrina (Lat) 4m 17.80s.
