HYDERABAD: Vijay Kumar inched close to a bronze but fell short in a four-way tie-shoot in the individual men’s 25 metre centre fire pistol of the Military World Games shooting competition at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh range here on Thursday. Locked at 585 with Oleg Trachov of Ukraine, Almeida De Souza of Brazil and Turkey’s Yusuf Dikec, the deadlock was broken by means of a five-shot series for the foursome. The Indian lad faltered on the second, managing only an eight, while posting the perfect-10 in the remaining four. Trachov registered 50, Dikec 49, Vijay 48 and De Souza 47. Prof. Sunny Thomas, India’s Chief Coach, who was a member of the jury, felt Vijay’s fifth place finish was a worthy effort, especially the 585 score, as was his emergence at the top of the duelling round in the team championship on Wednesday. The results (individual): Men: 25 m centre fire pistol: 1. Yadong Liu 588 (Chi) 2. Zheng Gao (Chi) 3. Oleg Trachov 585 (Ukr) 4. Yusuf Dikec 585 (Tur) 5. Vijay Kumar 585 (Ind). Women: 25 m pistol women: 1. Xiaoxu Ding 584 (Chi) 2. Munkhbayar Dorjsuren 583 (Ger) 3. Monika Martin 580 (Ger). Medal tally (gold, silver, bronze): 1. China (5-1-1) 2. Russia (1-0-1) 3. Turkey (1-0-0) 4. Germany (0-1-1) 5. India (0-1-0).
