Music for all at Navaratri fair

It is a collection of all kinds of music at the Navaratri Music Fair at the Women’s Association Hall till October 22. Starting with the traditional prayers, one can pick from a variety ranging from classical to remix pop.

In the devotional section, which has a big market, especially during the Navaratri and the coming Mandala puja season, there are complete packages in a series of Sthostras and Stutis, new albums in Malayalam and also CDs on the Ramayana and the Bhagvad Gita and folklores.

Organised by Viji Musics, the fair in its fifth year, has a collection of CDs for music therapy too, which are said to be beneficial for a number of ailments like cardio-vascular diseases, depression, sleeplessness and others. There is also a choice for people looking for alternative therapeutic methods like Reiki, yoga, Art of Living and Ayurveda. A number of CDs from the Osho Foundation are also available.

The Carnatic classical section is full with a number of new artistes apart from the maestros that include Semmangudi Sreenivasa Iyer, Chembai Vaidyanatha Bagavatar, D.K. Pattamal and M.S. Subbulakshmi. Sudha Raghunath, Nityashree Mahadevan, P. Unnikrishnan and others are some of the young singers in the collection.

There is a treasure of instrumental and fusion music too The Hindustani music section in both vocal and instrument has a varied range to pick from. There are also mini MP3 CDs available in classical, devotional and instrumental music, which cost Rs.75.

In the Hindi film music section, there are a number of fresh collections of old songs by Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. The CDs of Dev Anand songs and Suraiya songs are quite matchless. There are also enough to pick for those interested in peppy dance numbers and remix music. Film buffs will also find a lot to pick from the number of VCDs and DVDs available at wonderful prices.
