Seminar planned on December 9

S. Dorairaj

It will be on the ‘one world concept’

Puducherry: Whether they belong to the Sangam Age or modern times, one can always sense the powerful undercurrents of the ‘one world concept’ in Tamil literature. The quote of Sangam poet Kaniyan Poongunran, “To us all towns are one and all men our kin …,” works of poets including Subramaniya Bharathi and Bharatidasan, and hundreds of folk songs stand testimony to this.

The concept is “already affirmed in Tamil land, life, and the holistic approach of our literature, both folk and classic, which are always threaded through with the universal phenomenon - earth, man and heaven,” says the Auroville Tamil Heritage Centre.

The centre plans to hold a one-day international seminar on the ‘one world concept’ in Tamil on December 9, which marks Sri Aurobindo’s Mahasamadhi Day and the finale of the 125th birth anniversary of poet Subramanya Bharathi.

‘Humanism built in the classical language – Tamil’, ‘universal heritage in Tamil’, ‘Tamil for the future’ and ‘spiritual experiences in Tamil’ form the main themes of the proposed seminar.

The Tamil Heritage Centre has invited papers from those interested in the topic - the ‘one world concept’ in Tamil literature. Those interested may pen their ideas in Tamil, English or French. The articles should not exceed 10 pages.

It may also be sent by e-mail to oneworldtamil@yahoo.co.in or by mail to the Tamil Heritage Centre, Bharat Nivas, Auroville – 605101, on or before November 11, Kavignar R. Meenakshi, one of the organisers of the seminar, says.

The expert committee will select the best articles for publication. Authors of the selected articles will be invited to the seminar, she adds.
