BERHAMPUR: Handloom clusters to provide technical and financial support to the traditional weaver families would be taken up at Aska, Digapahandi, Chikiti and Purushottampur in Ganjam district by the Textile Ministry. A similar handloom cluster project for silk weavers in Berhampur has already been passed by the ministry. Berhampur MP and Union Minister of State for rural development, Chandrasekhar Sahu told the newsmen, following a meeting with the Union Textile Minister Sankar Singh Vaghela. The clusters would cater to 500 weaver families, who would be provided a special shed and a package of technical and financial help to improve their skills and economic condition. The ministry alloted funds for the establishment of Indian Institute of Handloom Technology at Bargarh in Western Orissa, said Mr. Sahu.
