‘Congress-JD(S) in secret meetings’

It won’t be surprising if JD(S)-BJP join hands again: Bangarappa

S. Bangarappa

Chitradurga: Mid-term elections are the only way to address the political turmoil in the State, president of the State Samajwadi Party S. Bangarappa has said.

Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, he said the decision of the Janata Dal (Secular) not to transfer power to the Bharatiya Janata Party has put the State in an enormous imbroglio. He alleged that all the three major political parties, the Congress, the Janata Dal (S) and the BJP, were only playing power politics.

He said that as per his information, the Congress was holding clandestine meetings with top leaders to realign with the Janata Dal (S). He advised the Congress to prepare for elections instead of reforming the Government with the help of the Janata Dal (S). He, however, said that anything could happen in politics. It will not be surprising if the Janata Dal (S) again joined hands with the BJP, he said.

He said that as the Government is in “suspended animation”, some legal experts say that in such a situation reformation of the government is not possible as the matter before the State is only to propose to Parliament to dissolve the Government. “While some others feel that government reformation is possible. The matter is still confusing,” he said.

Reacting to the BJP’s decision of launching a Dharma Yatra, he claimed that that party was known for creating a hue and cry on minor issues.

He made it clear that in the event of mid-term elections, his party would go it alone. “We will not join with any small or big party in the elections. Regarding his party not gaining majority, he said it is not an important issue. Even a century-old party such as the Congress did not obtain majority in the last elections,” he said.

He urged the people to vote for other parties such as the Samajwadi Party, which have guarded its secular credentials well unlike other major parties which have only indulged in power politics.
