NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old Nepalese national allegedly running an extortion racket has been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police for allegedly threatening to kill a businessman for not coughing up money.
A prominent businessman of Nepal who is a frequent visitor to Delhi and other parts of India lodged a complaint with the Delhi police that he received an extortion call on his mobile phone on March 2.
The complainant said the caller identified himself as Sandeep Pathak alias Milan Lama of International Black Spider Group and demanded Rs.1 crore from him.
An FIR was registered on March 19 with the Special Cell and both technical and manual surveillance were mounted to track the gang members.
Gang leader Sandeep Pathak was arrested on Wednesday and a 7.65-bore pistol and five live cartridges were allegedly seized from his possession. He also carried a reward of Rs. 50,000 on his head.
