NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia will soon get a new dental college for its campus here. The university has got a No Objection Certificate from the Delhi Health Ministry and the classes for a degree in Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) will most likely begin from the next academic year. A one-time special grant of Rs.22 crore from the University Grants Commission has been sanctioned to Jamia to construct the building for the new college. “Jamia is currently providing courses across the board except for medicine. This year we set up a Centre for Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences. A dental clinic has also been functioning for the past two years from the Ansari Health Centre. As there is only one Government-run dental college in the Capital, there has been a pressing need for another such facility,” said a Jamia spokesperson. The new BDS course will have an intake of 50 students and 14 teaching positions in various categories in the first year. Recruitment for the non-teaching staff has already begun .
