Pass new legislation on land acquisition for SEZs: Ramadoss

Special Correspondent

VILLUPURAM: Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss has urged the State Government to pass new legislation on land acquisition for special economic zones and private industrial ventures.

Guidelines

It should incorporate the Centre’s resettlement policy and the Supreme Court guidelines, and adequately address the issues such as fair compensation and jobs and social security to land providers.

Addressing a press conference at Thailapuram on Thursday, Dr. Ramadoss called for a new rule banning political leaders and their family members from contesting cooperative elections. It was essential to revive the cooperative philosophy that got distorted owing to political interference.

For controlling the cement prices, Dr. Ramadoss called for a year-long import of the commodity and its distribution through fair price shops. He hoped that such a move would break the syndicate formed by the cement manufacturers and provide sustained livelihood to lakhs of construction workers.

Regarding additional security sought by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the wake of the discreet entry of a stranger into her residence, Dr. Ramadoss said giving adequate protection to leaders was the right move. But her allegation that it was a murder plot hatched by somebody was a figment of imagination.

Dr. Ramadoss called for a nation-wide agitation to fight the injustice meted out to Other Backward Classes in Central Government jobs and to get their rightful share.

In this regard, he proposed to meet the OBC leaders in New Delhi to chalk out the agitation programme.
