Bridging differences with cultural exchanges

Staff Reporter

An evening of ghazals at Siri Fort Auditorium today

NEW DELHI: To celebrate its 13th birthday, Indian Women’s Press Corps along with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations is organising an evening of ghazals at Siri Fort Auditorium here this Saturday. The event will see performances by singers Runa Laila, Tahira Syed and Rita Ganguly.

History

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, ICCR Director-General Pavan Verma said: “We have been working at promoting cultural exchanges between the two countries. Our shared culture and history continue to be a great bond between us. We are using culture to bridge our differences and artistes play a significant role in this process. We would like to see many more artistes from our neighbouring countries performing here.”

Relationship

Expressing her joy at being able to perform for women journalists, Rita Ganguly said: “Over the years I have developed a beautiful relationship with members of the Indian Women’s Press Corps and I am glad to be able to sing for you.”

Building measures

Speaking about the importance of artistes being part of confidence building measures and peace initiatives between the two nations, Tahira Syed said: “Artists, specially those from India and Pakistan, have the shared responsibility of working for not just nation-building but also for promoting peace between the two countries. I have been on several government and private visits to India and enjoyed every one of it.”
