What is DNA fingerprinting

BANGALORE: DNA fingerprinting is a technique used to distinguish between individuals of the same species using only samples of their DNA.

It is a way of identifying a specific individual, rather than simply identifying a species or some particular trait.

Developed by Sir Alec Jeffreys at the University of Leicester in 1985, it is also known as genetic fingerprinting or DNA profiling.
