THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy has appealed to striking government doctors to call off their stir in view of the steps taken by the State government to meet various demands raised by the doctors. Replying to questions at a news conference here on Friday, the Health Minister said the government had already begun steps to grant non-cadre promotions in a time-bound manner. With this, there would not be any need for Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings to decide on promotions. Such meetings never took place on time and this invariably resulted in delays. The Finance Department had already cleared the proposal relating to non-cadre promotions, which was the most important demand of the doctors, the Health Minister said. Ms. Sreemathy said the government had also initiated steps to meet another long pending demand for reservation of seats in post graduate courses for government doctors. The government had decided not to wait for a legislation in the matter and reserve seats in post graduate courses beginning this year, the Health Minister said.
