Poll notification today

SHIMLA: Chief Electoral Officer Manisha Nanda announced on Friday that the notification for the coming elections in the three Himachal tribal constituencies of Kinnaur, Bharmaur and Lahaul-Spiti would be issued on Saturday. The last date for filing nominations will be October 27 and for withdrawals October 31.

She also apprised the Governor of the poll preparations in the hill State.

She said the elections would be held on the basis of photo electoral rolls finally published with reference to January 1, 2007, as the qualifying date. All citizens who have completed 18 years of age on January 1, 2007, and have other qualifications for getting registered as electors but for some reason their names are not included in the electoral rolls should apply in Form 6 for inclusion of their names.

Meanwhile, the Himachal State School Board has announced its new schedule of examinations from December 24 to January 2. Earlier the exams were to start from December 4. The Board has had to reschedule the exams due to the upcoming elections. The ruling Congress had taken the plea of exams and had wanted postponement of the elections to February but the Chief Election Commissioner had rejected the request.
