Heavy rush at Sabarimala temple

RELIGIOUS FERVOUR: The throng of devotees at the Lord Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala on Friday.

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala witnessed heavy rush on Friday as hundreds of devotees trekked the holy hillock, braving the rain in the forest.

A Sahasrakalasom was performed at the Ayyappa Temple prior to the Utchapuja on Friday.

Tantri Kandararu Maheswararu performed the Sahasrakalasapuja.

The Brahmakalasom was taken out in a customary procession to the sanctum sanctorum for performing the Sahasrakalsabhishekom by 12 noon.

The auspicious Pushpabhishekom followed by the Padipuja were also held in the evening.

A Kalabhabhishekom ritual will be performed at the temple on October 22. The temple will be closed on October 22, marking the culmination of the five-day monthly puja.

The temple will reopen on November 7 afternoon for the Chithira Aattathirunal celebrations to be held the next day.

A 62-year-old pilgrim, Sadasivan of Thiruvalloor Uthukottai in Tamil Nadu, died at Pampa Government Hospital on Thursday.

According to the Health Department sources at Pampa, Sadasivan was found lying in the toilet block at Pampa before he was brought to the hospital.

The body was sent to Pathanamtmthitta General Hospital for post-mortem, later.

The deceased was a Malayali who had reportedly migrated to Tamil Nadu from Vallicaud in Pathanamthitta district, the police said.
