JD(S) set to assume power in Council

Staff Correspondent

HASSAN: With three independent councillors, Abdul Rehaman, Mangalamma alias Seethamma and Srividya, joining the Janata Dal (S) at a function in Hassan on Friday, the decks were cleared for the Janata Dal (S) to assume power in the Hassan City Municipal Council.

The former Minister, H.D. Revanna, was present at the function in which the Councillors joined the party.

In the 35-member Council, the Janata Dal (S) had won 16 seats while the Congress bagged 11.

The BJP had won two seats and the independents were sent victorious from six constituencies. So it was a fractured verdict. With three independents joining the Janata Dal (S), its strength rose to 19.
