Co-operate with naval authorities, says Collector

Special Correspondent

PUDUKOTTAI: Collector D. Uthirakkumaran on Friday appealed to fishermen of the district to extend their cooperation to the Navy while venturing into the sea.

At a consultative meeting with representatives of fishermen associations and naval officers here on Friday, Mr. Uthirakkumaran said fishermen on mechanised boats should carry copies of registration certificates of their boats, identity cards and permits and produce them for verification during checks conducted by the Navy. Fishermen should not cross international boundaries.

There were about 422 mechanised boats operating out of Jagadapattinam and Kottaipattinam and 1,690 catamarans in the district, he said.

Jagadapattinam Naval Detachment Officer (in-charge) R.B. Kaushik, District Revenue Officer G. Prakasam and other officials attended the meeting.
