Pot with gold coins found

Krishnagiri: A copper pot that contained two dozen gold coins that are said to belong to the Krishnadevaraya period, found Achamangalam near here, were handed over to revenue officials in the district on Friday.

According to sources, Venugopal (50) a farmer of Azhagiya Pudur had come across the pot when he was in the process of digging a line of trenches in his mango orchard.

Container

He had come across the treasure trove in its antique container. It is said that the coins were most likely to have been minted during the Krishnadevaraya period.

Following a tip-off, police officials recovered the valuables comprising of 24 gold coins. Only numismatic experts could read the exact details about the coins, they added.

The Kandhikuppam police are investigating.
