DINDIGUL: The district administration has planned to create massive infrastructure, including an indoor stadium and new playgrounds, to promote sports activities in the district.
The exclusive facility for each game will be established to enable students to develop their skills in a particular game.
To begin with, three spots — NGO Colony, an open ground behind Sri Mariamman Temple near Rock Fort and an vacant site near the district sports complex here — were identified to establish facilities for track and field events, volleyball and basketball and exclusive playgrounds for hockey and cricket. A separate place will be identified shortly for setting up an indoor stadium.
These structures will be developed with the funds sanctioned by the Central and state governments and public contributions.
A 100-metre-long viewers’ gallery on eastern side of the football ground, an essential component to conduct matches at international standard, will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.30 lakh. Trainees of the football academy will soon have a hostel facility.
A rural sports development centre, exclusively for promoting football, will also be constituted at Jambuliampatti by October-end.
The Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority will bear 50 per cent of the total project cost.
