COLOMBO: Condemning the suicide attack on the convoy of Pakistan People’s Party leader Benazir Bhutto in Karachi on Thursday as a “cowardly act of terrorism”, Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Friday said such incidents are becoming an “increasing scourge” of the South Asian region. In a statement issued here, he said such attacks are cowardly acts of terrorism, and are becoming an increasing scourge in the countries of the South Asian region. “This attack with its great toll of human life, attracts the strongest denunciation as it has been carried out at a time when the people of Pakistan are looking forward to general elections, for a peaceful and orderly transition of power, in keeping with the traditions of democracy”, he said. Sri Lanka shared with the government and the people of Pakistan “our profound sorrow at the loss of life, and the suffering of the families of those killed.”
