Western Railway in semifinals

MUMBAI: Western Railway surged into the men’s semifinals from Group B, edging out formidable Central Excise & Customs (Kochi) 84-80 in a fascinating contest of skill and nerves at the All India Ramu Memorial Basketball on Thursday night.

South Eastern Railway (Bilaspur) ended women’s Group ‘B’ engagements on a rousing note, recording a 95-81 triumph (40-35 halt-time) over Western Railway. South Central Railway is the other team to qualify for the semifinals as the second-placed team.

The results:

Men: Group ‘B’: W. Rly 84 (Jasjit Singh 33, Rahul Dev Tyagi 15, Yadwinder Singh 11) bt Central Excise & Customs, Kochi 80 (Subhash Shenoy 22, S. Deepu 17, Joe Antony 12). HT 40-52.

Indian Navy 92 (S.M. Settu 25, A.A. Mashi 14, S. Cherian 12) bt TNBA 75 (Anbu Kumar 30, Vinokh 16). HT 42-44.

Women: Group ‘B’: SEC Rly 95 (Anju Lakra 35, Seema Singh 23, M. Pushpa 21) bt W. Rly 81 (Rashmi 22, Menaka Anthony 16). HT 40-35.
