No medals for Indian team

HYDERABAD: India finished fifth in the men’s 25 metre rapid fire pistol team event of the Military World Games at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) range on Friday. Russia with 1752 claimed gold ahead of China (1750) and People’s Republic of Korea (1735).

Based on their sizeable personal scores, young Hambir Singh and Vijay Kumar qualified for the individual competition of the same event on Saturday.

China misses out!

The distaff side of the same event became the first competition where China did not find a place on the podium. India finished 11th, Ramandeep Kaur posting a score of 558, Itika Suri 542 and Saroja Kumari 528.

Norway bettered its own CISM record of 1692 set on home soil in Rena last year with a tally of 1693 in the men’s 300 metre rifle rapid fire team competition at the Lake Line range. India finished 10th logging 1645.

Men: 25m military rapid fire pistol team: 1. Russia 1752 (Alexey Klimov 589, Mikhail Nestruev 585, Sergey Polyakov 578) 2. China 1750 (Yadong Liu 588, Zheng Gao 581, Yongde Jin 581) 3. People’s Republic of Korea 1735 (Hyon Ung Kim 580, Rim Chol Kim 579, Chang Sik Kang 576).

300m rifle rapid fire team: 1. Norway 1693 (Wear Hans Kristian 575, Berg Webjorn 566, Berg-Knutsen Espen 552) 2. Finland 1671 (Tulonen Kammo 565, Puustinen Jussi 553, Pennanen Kari 553) 3. Austria 1670 (Thomas Farnik 564, Kammerlander Florian 558, Knoegler Mario 548).

Women: 25m team military rapid fire pistol: 1. People’s Republic of Korea 1732 (Kang Byol Un 581, Ri Hyang Sun 579, So Un Ju 572) 2. Belarus 1727 (Zhanna Shapialevich 586, Natalia Wo Yurkavets 577, Larysa Usachova 564) 3. Russia 1722 (Irina Dolgacheva 578, Natalia Paderina 572, Galina Belyaeva 572).

50m rifle three position team: 1. China 1745 (Xiangyan Wan 587, Wen Yin 581, Yi Jiao 577) 2. Ukraine 1729 (Natalia Kalnysh 579, Natalia Omelianenko 576, Leskia Leskiv 574) 3. Russia 1727 (Tatiana Goldobina 581, Tatiana Yushkova 573, Alena Nizkoshapskaya 573).

India loses to China

Meanwhile, in volleyball, the Indians kept themselves in contention for a bronze despite losing to China 25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18 in a super league match at Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy Indoor Stadium here on Friday.

The winner of the India-Qatar match on Saturday will get the bronze.
