KOTTAYAM: Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha took the first innings lead against Pathanamthitta and Kottayam but the two-day under-17 south zone inter-district cricket match between the these teams ended in a draw. Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha took two points each for the first innings lead. The scores: Thiruvananthapuram 366 for eight in 90 overs drew with Pathanamthitta 150 in 62.2 overs (Bipin Chatterjee three for 49) and 15 for one in seven overs. Kottayam 118 in 39.3 overs drew with Alappuzha 171 in 66 overs (Sabin 42, Fernandez five for 25, Tony Jose five for 50). Vinoo Mankad TrophyThe Vinoo Mankad Trophy under-19 limited over cricket tournament (South Zone) will get underway at the three venues here on Saturday. Rain threatBut the threat of rain looms large in wake of the heavy showers the city has been receiving in the last few days. Kerala, Karnataka, Hyderabad, Goa, Andhra and Tamil Nadu are taking part in the tournament and the winner and the runner-up from this zone will qualify in the all-India knock-out tournament to be played in Agarthala. The matches in the South Zone leg will be played at the Medical College ground, Agriculture College ground and at the LNCPE ground.
