Saranraj wins title

TIRUCHI: R. Saranraj scored six points from as many rounds to win the under-13 title at the chess tournament conducted by the Vijay Anandh Chess Academy here.

UDC ‘A’ triumphs

Urumu Dhanalakshmi College ‘A’ defeated Seagul CC by three wickets in the final of the Tiruchi DCA knock-out cricket tournament and qualified for the fifth division league.

The scores: Seagul CC 93 in 28 overs lost to Urumu Dhanalakshmi College ‘A’ 97 for seven in 23.2 overs (Vijay four for 22).

Rafic scalps five

At Cuddalore, Mohammed Rafic’s five-wicket haul was the highlight of ACC’s 116-run win over Friends CC in a Canara Bank–Cuddalore DCA first division league cricket match.

The scores:

At Cuddalore: ACC 182 for eight in 40 overs (Mahendran 44) bt Friends CC 66 in 23.3 overs (Mohammed Rafic five for 14); Academy ‘A’ 173 in 37.2 overs (Balaji 63) bt TCC 104 in 32.1 overs.

At Neyveli: Strangers CC 210 in 40 overs (R. Ramachandran 57, M. Karthik 40) lost to Blue Moon CC 211 for six in 38.5 overs (R. Suresh Kumar 68 not out, G. Iyyaperumal 65).
