Thiruvananthapuram: The District Administration today said it will confiscate cargo vehicles, if need be, to prevent any disruption of supply of essential commodities in view of the ongoing indefinite strike by truck owners. District Collector N. Ayyppan said the government will invoke the provisions of the Requisition and Acquisition of Property Act, 1981, for such emergency measures. He said the district administration had taken steps to ensure the supply of vegetables, fuel, cooking gas and other essential commodities in view of the indefinite strike. Traders who need cargo vehicles for transporting essential commodities should contact the Regional Transport Officer if they are unable to find one on their own. The police will provide adequate protection and escort to trucks ferrying essential commodities. Taluk Supply Officers and City Rationing Officers have been asked to monitor the market and prices of essential commodities. They should ensure the availability of essential commodities in the open market. The Collector has ordered the Regional Officer of the Civil Supplies Department to ensure the availability of vegetables in the market. Oil company officials should ensure the delivery of fuel to all outlets. The Collector should be immediately alerted about any difficulty in ensuring fuel delivery.
