Majestic area sees the usual festival rush

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: With the beginning of the festival weekend, the central business district in the city that comprises the KSRTC bus station and the city railway station has been witnessing traffic logjams since Thursday.

The situation worsened on Friday as hordes of Bangaloreans packed their baggage to outstations to celebrate the Ayudha Puja and enjoy the festival weekend.

The Kempe Gowda Road that connects Majestic with major parts of the city was choked with vehicles moving bumper to bumper on Thursday evening and Friday evening. Similarly, the Goods Shed Road and Platform Road too witnessed traffic bottlenecks. Vehicles moved at snail’s pace from Corporation circle to K.G. Road from late evening and there was no sign of respite till 11.30 p.m.

The KSRTC that has been deploying extra buses to cater to the festival rush ever since the beginning of Navrathri has kept aside 400 buses for Friday operations from Bangalore.

The corporation has already been operating over 200 extra services to Mysore.

He said the corporation had been able to provide sufficient services to the festival crowd.

The traffic police have urged people going out of the city by bus or train to reach Majestic to avoid using private vehicles and instead use BMTC buses.

They have also asked people who use K.G. Road as a thoroughfare to reach other parts of the city to use Palace Road, Race Course Road and other alternative roads to avoid getting stuck in traffic bottlenecks.
