TAMBARAM: A first year student of an engineering college sustained bleeding injuries after he was attacked by some of his seniors.
The incident took place on board a bus near Pallavaram on Thursday when the students were returning to their institution. Allwin, a first year student of aeronautical engineering at a college near Guindy, was among a group of 40 of his classmates who went to Villiyanoor for practical training. Five of his senior students were also travelling with them.
Near Pallavaram, the seniors reportedly forced Allwin to come to the back seat and allegedly ragged him. He was allegedly hit on the head and left shoulder . Allwin called his father, Chellaiah, a Sub-Inspector at Guduvanchery Police Station, over his mobile. Mr. Chellaiah informed the personnel on duty at the St. Thomas Mount control room . The bus had reached the educational institution by the time the police arrived.
The injured student was rushed to a private hospital in Guindy, while the senior students fled. Police said they were searching for the seniors.
