All-party meet backs Narayana’s fast

CPI leader to press for land distribution

The indefinite fast will begin from October 26

Leaders demand action against the trespassers

HYDERABAD: Leaders of various political parties on Friday extended unanimous support to the proposed indefinite fast to be launched by the Communist Party of India State secretary K. Narayana from October 26 demanding distribution of Government land to the landless poor in Hafeezpet on the city outskirts.

Close on the heels of the CPI leader and other party workers raiding Government land in survey number 78, 79 and 80 in Hafeezpet village in Serilingampalli mandal last week, speakers at an all-party meeting here demanded that the Government take steps to resume the land in the illegal possession of land grabbers and distribute the same among the poor.

CPI National secretary and MP Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy pointed out that out of 900 acres of Government land, close to 480 acres belonged to those people, who left it behind in wake of the country’s participation. He charged that land grabbers occupied such lands.

He wanted the Government to initiate action against the trespassers.

TDP MLA G. Sayanna accused the Congress Government of favouring their near and dear and allotting Government land in and around the city. Majlis Bachao Tahreek president Amjadullah Khan demanded that all land grabbers should be booked under AP Control of Organised Crime Act.

The CPI (M) Ranga Reddy district secretary D.G.S. Narasimha Rao accused the Government of supporting the land grabbers and harassing poor people who were agitating for house sites.

CPI State Secretariat member K.Ramakrishna lamented that the police were arresting and handcuffing the leaders, who participated in land struggle.
