CHENNAI: The AIADMK on Friday urged the State Government to enhance the perimeter security at former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s residence at Poes Garden.
In a letter to the Chennai Police Commissioner, party treasurer O. Paneerselvam, headquarters secretary K.A. Sengottaiyan and D. Jayakumar, secretary, All World MGR Manram, requested the Government to upgrade the quality of security provided by posting at least two officers in the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police as her Personal Security Officers and part of the permanent security cover, to effectively oversee the arrangements.
The letter stated that on October 16, a stranger managed to breach the security at the main gate of Ms. Jayalalithaa’s residence. He entered the house and reached the first floor, coming face-to-face with the occupants. The police should investigate the antecedents of the intruder and take necessary action.
The letter said as Chief Minister, Ms. Jayalalithaa had initiated tough measures to tackle law and order on various fronts. Considering these, she was given ‘Z plus scale security’ by the Centre. Strangely, the perimeter security of her residence was drastically scaled down in May 2006, exposing her to danger.
