Tamil Nadu
State Bank of India in this town is situated in the south west corner of the town. Those in the heart and the north of the town have to travel more than a mile to reach it. During the first fortnight there is heavy rush in the bank. There is no space even to stand. As regards the queue at the ATM, the less said the better. There is need to open another branch of this bank in this town. One may be opened in the heart of the town or in the bus stand area. C. Savithri, Dharmapuri. Small LPG cylinderFive kg. LPG carriable cylinder is available in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and other states. This cylinder is useful for people who are on transfer. I request the authorities to introduce it in Tamil Nadu. R. Sundararajan, Salem. Electricity billsPersons who are always on the move or working in shifts fail to pay electricity bills on time. This unintended act ends up in disconnection of power supply by the Electricity Board authorities. On return from an outstation tour late in the night a dark reception awaits them. Will the law-makers in the Electricity Board look into this matter and arrive at a solution which can perhaps include yearly payment too. R. Nagarajan, Salem. Intercity ExpressWhen the newly-formed Salem Railway division becomes operational its first and foremost business should be to withdraw the extension of the Bangalore-Coimbatore Intercity Express up to Eranakulam and restore the earlier service of only up to Coimbatore. It is funny that the Intercity Express, a day train, contains more sleepers than seats making a mockery of the reservation system. Passengers from Coimbatore, Erode and Salem find it difficult to travel comfortably in the Intercity Express. If the Chennai-Coimbatore Kovai Express on its return run as Coimbatore-Bangalore Intercity Express as before it will not only maintain punctuality but also enable passengers to reach their destination on time. C. Bhaskaran, Erode. Government vacanciesSince there is no adequate recruitment to all government departments, those who have been promoted in some departments cannot be relieved immediately. The delay in relieving the promoted candidates results in postponement of increment, decrease in pensionary benefits etc. They also find it difficult to get admission to their children in schools and colleges on transfer. G.N. Devaraj, Bhavanisagar. Readers can mail to cbereaders@thehindu.co.in with address and telephone number.
