Ramesh Flowers CC wins title

Tuticorin: Edwin’s unbeaten 146 and his 188-run fourth wicket partnership with S.P. Nathan (51) helped Ramesh Flowers CC defeat Seconds CC ‘A’ by 61 runs in the final of the 18th annual district-level cricket tournament and retain the L.P. Rayen memorial Trophy on Saturday.

The scores: Ramesh Flowers CC 248 for four in 30 overs (Edwin 146 not out, S.P. Nathan 51) bt Seconds CC ‘A’ 188 for nine in 30 overs (Prakash 47, Marimuthu four for 25).

Pusharaj shines

At Theni, Pusharaj’s 75 helped Chinnamanur CC defeat Dharmasena CC (K.M. Patti) by 52 runs in the Canara Bank-Theni DCA first division league on Sunday.

The scores: Chinnamanur CC 143 in 24.3 overs (Pusharaj 75) bt Dharmasena CC (K.M. Patti) 91 in 21.4 overs; Cosmos CC 171 in 30 overs (Santhanam 59, Andawar four for 25) lost to CPA College (Bodi) 172 for eight in 28.4 overs (Suresh Kumar 41).

Sivakumar scalps five

At Dindigul, Sivakumar’s five for 25 helped Sam Babu XI (Kodaikanal) defeat Jahir CC ( Vedasandhr) by four wickets in the Canara Bank-Dindigul DCA first division league on Sunday.

The scores: Jahir CC 110 in 29 overs (N. Sivakumar five for 25) lost to Sam Babu XI 114 for six in 37.3 overs.

Selvam sparkles

At Tirunelveli, riding on Selvam’s five for 23 and 47 runs, Seven Stars CC beat Prince CC by 70 runs in the Canara Bank-Tirunelveli DCA ‘B’ division league at Sankarnagar on Sunday.

The scores: Seven Stars CC 178 for two in 18 overs (Solaikumar 53, Selvam 47) bt Prince CC 114 in 14 overs (Raju 41, Selvam five for 23); National EC 108 for three in 16 overs (Saravana Gandhi 38) tied with Indian CC 108 for nine in 16 overs.

Chezhian scores

At Dindigul, a 14th minute strike by Chezhian helped Coronation FC defeat Rock Fort SC 1-0 in the Dindigul District Football Association ‘A’ division league for the S.P.D. Tools Trophy on Sunday.

Other results: PSNA FC 3 (Jayaraj, Sanjay, Sadik Ali) bt Dudley FC 0; Solar FC (Nilakottai) 0 drew with Murugan Memorial FC.

SZ Police posts win

At Madurai, South Zone Police beat TVS SC 3-0 in the Madurai District Football Association ‘A’ division league for the Hi-Tech Arai Trophy on Saturday. Rajkumar, Laser Doss and Senthil Raja scored.

Other result: Acme SC 2 (Kannan, Saravanan) bt Vikram FC 1 (Yuvaraj).

Volleyball trials

Trials to select the Madurai district boys’ and girls’ teams to participate in the Tamil Nadu sub-junior inter-district volleyball championship will be held at the MGR Race Course Stadium at 3 p.m. on October 26.
