No talks with lorry owners
Kerala Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State government has decided to deal firmly with the three-day-old strike by lorry owners in protest against an official directive to remit contributions to the Transport Workers’ Welfare Fund.
Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan and Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran told The Hindu here on Sunday that the government was not planning to hold more talks with lorry owners.
Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas told The Hindu that a meeting would be held in Kozhikode on Monday to evaluate how people had been affected by the strike. Mr. Gurudasan said he would hold talks in Kozhikode on Monday, along with Mr. Thomas, with representatives of trade unions in the transport sector. Mr. Divakaran said arrangements had been made to ensure that lorries carrying essential commodities from other States to Kerala were not blocked at the check-posts. There was adequate stock of vegetables in the State for a week.
